DraftStreet's Friday Freeroll

Let’s give a warm welcome to our newest member of the Chatter, Reid McIntyre.  Reid is one of our very best friends from UMass.  He enjoys long walks, growing his beard, mowing grass, playing Nintendo 64, and sweet-talking the ladies (all ages).  Reid has always been a goose and I really do not know why he hasn’t blogged for us before.  Heads up for NFL news and anything that Mr. Reid can think of.  He is also a fellow Chiver, Chive On!

Anyways, here is my DraftStreet Team for Tomorrows Free-Roll (DFF).  I will give you my starting 9 + a relief pitcher.  You will need to come up with your own Utility players (2), a second Pitcher, and then a Utility Pitcher (this can be either another starter or another reliever)

Catcher- A.J. Ellis (LAD):  Ellis is under $6K and it is hard to find good cheap catchers.  He doesn’t break the bank and he is hitting hot.  He is 3rd amongst all catchers in average and we love to see that.  Average=hits and hits= points.

First Base- Albert Pujols (LAA):  Pujols is extremely cheap right now and is a must play.  He cost only $5,400 and can easily have a big game.  Yes, he is slumping, but he has been the best hitter for the past decade.  He will turn it all around very soon.

Second Base- Dustin Pedroia (BOS):  Pedroia hasn’t put a ball over the fence in quite a while.  I predict a homerun.  He is just hitting under .300 and should pepper the ball all over the field.  He has power behind him so if he gets on base I expect him to score.

Third Base- Miguel Cabrera (DET):  Cabrera is facing Swarzak of the Twins.  He has only started 3 games this season.  Also Cabrera is 3 for 7 against him.  Miguel bats in front of Fielder so he will get all of his AB without getting intentionally walked.  Cabrera has only 1 long ball thus far in May.  Expect big things.

Short Stop- Zack Cozart (CIN):  Cozart is a must play.  He is the leadoff hitter for the Reds and has been straight fire lately.  Oh, did I mention that he is only $4k?  If and when he gets on base, he is going to score.  Hitting behind him is Bruce, Votto, Phillips, and Ludwick.

Outfield- Drew Stubbs (CIN):  Stubbs is the number two hitter most days for the Reds, he is very inexpensive which is good because it will free up some extra cash for bigger named players.  Stubbs has 3 homeruns in his last 4 games.

Outfield- Nick Swisher (NYY):  For some reason I am in love with Nick Swisher.  He has some great power numbers for the games he has played this season and bats in the six hole for the Yankees.

Outfield- Adam Jones (BAL):  Jones is facing Bruce Chen and is 5-11 lifetime against him.  Jones bats cleanup for the first place Orioles and has been producing all season long.  I expect a crooked number from the fighting Showalters.

Pitcher- Ivan Nova (NYY):  Yes, he is a Yankee, so it does twist my stomach more than anything picking him, but he does record a lot of strike outs.  Also he is facing the Oakland Athletics.  He is at a fair price of $11K and should be able to pick up 6-8 K’s.  Look for a solid outing and some big fantasy points.

Pitcher- Jason Hammel (BAL):  Hammel is 5-1 on the season and 2-0 at home.  He faces an offensively weak Kansas City Royal team.  They have a few big names, but nothing he can’t power over.  He has 46 strikeouts on the season and should continue to mow down the Royals.

Pitcher Relief- Rafael Soriano (NYY):  I like my relief pitchers to match one of my starters.  I expect Nova to grab the win and Soriano to close it out.  I do not spend much money on my closers because there is a chance they will not play.  Soriano is a safe play and has potential for 4-5 points.

REMINDER:  If you have time, make sure you check the starting lineups.  Remember, you can't score points if the player is not playing.  Check HERE around 6:30 PM and check if the players are in the starting lineup.  Best of luck and I will update this over the weekend with the results.
