Recently the writers for GeeseChatter created a page on Facebook called Church of Tebow. The page is a celebration of what Tim Tebow has been able to do this NFL season, which is mystify the hell out of anyone who thinks they know something about football. We began to promote our page, and the fanbase grew. However with this fanbase, naturally, haters began to criticize.
Now, generally I wouldn't care if you had a problem with what Tim Tebow was doing, or whether he would be a successful NFL quarterback. But these nay-sayers had a different agenda. On more than one occasion we were told by people that they didn't feel right "liking" the Facebook page. That it wouldn't sit right with their relationship with their own religion. This is where my gears began to grind. These people thought we were actually creating a religion. A religion whose origin was in a college dorm room. A religion whose main texts were on a Facebook page. A religion whose main figure was an NFL quarterback that had an arm the likes of Tsunami's grandmother. Not only did they think this was a real religion, they thought it would be blasphemous to "like" a Facebook page. As if they were the picture of piety and could judge the sacredness of our fan page. Are you kidding me?! If we were really starting a religion do you think we would do it on Facebook? We would honestly start a religion around a guy who could probably throw the ball better if he punted it instead? And if we were starting a religion, who the hell are you to judge it? Did the Pope knight you as the judge of all religions based on NFL players? I don't think so. Let's get real people. Since when do people take college aged males seriously anyway? I'm going to bed. Big T out.
